Come winter, preparation for human hibernation of sorts is necessary, which means that your most important tool will now be the heater. Keep your home snug and cozy against the harsh weather outside.
We all love the delicious feeling of sinking into bed in a room that is all toasty and comfortable, especially when the weather outside is… frightful. (We are sorry). Heaters are a winter essential, and for some, it’s actually about more than just ensuring warmth. Heaters can help prevent fatalities, as extreme winter conditions can sometimes be dangerous, particularly for elderly people. So all round, investing in one is a good idea. But given the sheer number of options out there, it can understandably overwhelming.
Here are some of what we think are the best portable heaters for easy browsing. We’ve included their individual traits as well, so you can make an informed decision.

Why we like it: Portable, affordable and incredibly versatile
We love this heater by Lasko for a whole bunch of reasons.
It features two different heat settings which includes high heat and low heat, plus, it also has an auto setting which makes this heater ideas for warming up areas in your office or home. The full-circle oscillation ensures that this heater distributes warm air throughout the entire room in which it is placed.
The adjustable programmable thermostat which features a digital display allows you to adjust the heater’s 1500 watt ceramic heating elements.
It also benfits from a number of built-in safety features including overheat protection so that you can leave your heater on without any worries.
This fully-assembled heater can be plugged in and works right out of the box.
2. Pelonis Ceramic Tower Heater
[amazon box=”B076ZH98T4″ template= “horizontal”]
Why we like it: Modern, portable and easily fits into any space inconspicuously
Bulky appliances are no longer part of any household unless of course, it’s some sort of fancy antique that’s worth thousands. In which case you should display it too! The norm now is to go for streamlined, chic devices that will effortlessly blend into any contemporary home. Well, the Pelonis heater is a great fit for just that. This ceramic tower heater is also an electric oscillating space heater fan, and packs in a lot of features.
We found the 24-hour programmable timer to be incredibly efficient and convenient, as it sets the temperature to just the way you want it in advance. Additionally, it’s perfect for homes with kids and pets, as it’s sturdy against tip-overs and also has overheating protection. The auto shutoff functionality is another bonus as well. Best of all, we love that we don’t have to move to adjust the temperature or controls. The remote does it all for you. There’s also an eco-setting that allows you to also conserve energy consumption, which in turn lowers your energy bills.
3. Mr. Heater Indoor-Safe Portable Radiant Heater
[amazon box=”B002G51BZU” template= “horizontal”]
Why we like it: A monster of a heater that will definitely keep you warm through winter
Okay so this isn’t the most streamlined heater around, but believe us when we say that this will ensure you’re well heated against the cold. Available in red-black and grey, this heater has the capability to heat spaces of up to 225sqft. We especially love that it can be used both indoors and outdoors, so even if you’ve got guests on the patio or in the dining room or both, you can be sure they’ll be comfortable instead of chattering their teeth off mid-conversation. It also immediately shuts off if it’s knocked over. Even more impressively, it shuts off when there are low levels of oxygen in the room.
The fold-down handle makes it easy to carry around and store, which means it’s portable as well. You can also choose from two different heat settings, and make use of the four-position control. Plus, the high-temperature wire guard ensures utmost safety at all times, though we’d also like to take this moment to say that heaters should typically be stored away from traffic areas. The porcelain-coated heating surfaces also helps distribute heat over larger spaces more efficiently.
4. Portable Space Heater, DOUHE Electric Ceramic Heater
[amazon box=”B074V5YLB5″ template= “horizontal”]
Why we like it: Efficient, quiet when in operation, and versatile use
Whether you think your office could do with a little more heat or you’d like a heater all to yourself at home, the Douhe electric ceramic heater could fit you nicely. Usable at both home and office, this heater’s affordable as well. It pretty much gets the job done. Plus, this too has an oscillating fan heater for even heat distribution, and also has tip-over and overheating protection integrated which is especially good news for homes with little ones and pets.
What we particularly liked about it is that it comes with an adjustable head, so you can basically change how the heat is being dispersed accordingly. The material it’s made of is ABD flame-resistant, so it’s even more secure. One thing to bear in mind though, don’t use it anywhere there is water or moisture. So no bathrooms or kitchens, especially if the latter is small and lacks proper ventilation, as it could be humid. There are two settings to play with, 450W and 950W, depending on whether you want high or low heating. The 2-year warranty and lifetime customer support makes it all much better as well.
5. Tenergy 1500W/750W Portable Space Heaters
[amazon box=”B07582RCLZ” template= “horizontal”]
Why we like it: Budget-friendly, simple to use, and very efficient
Another great candidate to consider. Tenergy presents their heater, complete with portability and an adjustable thermostat, but what we found to be their key feature is the front intake air design they had incorporated. This helps save on space and is actually a very innovative move for a heater. In other words, what this means is that you can now prop the heater up against the wall without worrying. Additionally, the powerful fan heater provides instant warmth, so you needn’t rub your arms vigorously until you wait for the heater to get to work.
Flip between two heat settings as required, while the adjustable thermostat keeps your preferred room temperature maintained once it’s reached for a superior heating experience. Worried about pets or kids knocking it over or burns sustained by overheating? Don’t be, this one’s protected against them both. What’s more, it’s not only ETL certified, but also includes a full 2 years’ warranty, along with lifetime customer service. Just perfect.
6. Lasko Ceramic Tower Heater
[amazon box=”B000TTV2QS” template= “horizontal”]
Why we like it: Another very modern option, with efficient space consumption as well
We really like tower heaters, mainly because they’re just easy to work with. Whether you want to move it from one spot to another or make do with a small area, they pretty much fit in anywhere. This one by Lasko is especially streamlined and features a funky design. It also comes with a remote control, so you no longer need to pause your Netflix marathons to adjust the heat settings. It also has a self-regulating ceramic element and automatic overheating protection.
Furthermore, they’ve also included an electronic thermostat that’s also programmable, complete with a 7-hour timer. There are two different settings to choose from, as well as an auto thermostat-controlled setting. Also, ETL certified, we highly recommend this heater not just because it’s effective and convenient, but because it’s also very safe. Oh, and there’s also a handy carry-handle that allows you to easily transport it from place to place.
7. Vornado MVH Whole Room Vortex Heater
[amazon box=”B00MB4BQ0G” template= “horizontal”]
Why we like it: Basic, straightforward, and affordable
The Vornado heater is not a bad deal. Mind you it isn’t anything particularly fancy, and it definitely doesn’t look as modern as some of our other options here, but we think it still does quite well for itself. This one’s black, but they’ve also got another in Warm Gray. There’s a thermostat integrated for precise temperature control, and the three heat settings offer more options when compared to the two settings most of the rest here have.
Aside from tip-over and overheat protection by automatically shutting off should either of these happen, it’s also whisper-quiet when in operation, and has a 5-year warranty backing it as well. So should anything go wrong with it, you needn’t worry, you can simply contact the company and they’ll have it taken care of for you. Important to note though is that whilst this is certified, approved and authenticated, it’s built for use only within the US.
8. Optimus H-4110 9-Inch Dish Heater
[amazon box=”B000GG8DTS” template= “horizontal”]
Why we like it: We have hope that this might at some point turn into a Transformer
Aside from the name that gives us a sneaky suspicion on the exact origins of this possible Autobot, the Optimus dish heater is very different to anything we featured so far. For starters, it looks exactly like an ordinary table fan, when in fact it’s actually not. However, when inspecting closer you begin to find out that this is a sort of modification if you will. Best of all, it’s quite cheap.
It has a 300W setting; so though not super powerful, it’s enough for basic warmth. It also gives off instant heat and is also efficient because it consumes less energy than your typical heater. The exterior is built to be cool-touch, so you don’t need to worry about burns when moving it from one sport to another. We’d actually really recommend this for use as a desk heater. There’s also a built-in carrying handle, and it’s quiet as well, so you can work/sleep easily.
