Best Power Wheels

Kids & Baby

No one is too young to drive. Start early with introducing your child to the thrills and not too many spills of driving a moving vehicle. Obviously, this is not conceivable with a life-sized automobile, so you are going to have to go with a scaled down version. And that is exactly where powered wheels are for the win!

Of course, we are not talking of petrol-powered super-fast monsters that kill trees and polar bears and sound like hell. Powered wheels are far more docile and manageable even for a little toddler. But this being the 21st century, you cannot ignore the technology that makes them. It is no longer just about getting your child from A to B. A good ride is loaded with a bunch of other gizmos to entertain your child with more than just a driving experience.

And to get a grip on all that, we have come up with a selection of some really good kid’s rides that we think are the best bang for your buck. And we have included a small review piece explaining their main talking points and other details.

Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force Tractor

Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force Tractor with Trailer
  • 2 speeds plus reverse; 2¼ & 4½ mph. (4½ mph lockout for beginners)
  • Accelerator pedal with automatic brakes
  • Farm tractor wheels provide traction on grass, dirt, gravel or pavement.
Why we like it: Checks all the boxes for safety, comfort, and usability. Nothing really to stop you from buying it.

Editor’s rating:

Because not all kids want a blinged up look-at-me supercar. Some are a bit more mature than that and want something more practical… like a tractor. And the Peg Perego John Deere Force tractor and trailer is for that type of kid. It can accommodate kids anywhere from two to seven years of age and give them kid’s eye view of a farmer’s daily duties. But of course, you do not just drive it, you also get an FM radio to listen to.

A tractor with FM radio is something to bargain for. But you also get adjustable seating, armrests, two speeds, and a steady four-and-a-half miles an hour, thrilling enough for someone still learning to gain full hand-eye coordination. Other safety features include a reverse option, automatic braking, and all-wheel drive, on the tractor, that is. Power comes from a 12-volt rechargeable battery. And don’t worry, parents still have a handy control of the speed thanks to a second gear locking facility.

Why we like it: Very nicely detailed and well-built for a delightful off-roading adventure.

Editor’s rating:

Learning to drive on tarmac can wait till your kid is old enough to apply for their driving license. Your backyard is more off-roading territory. And this Jeep Wrangler is about off-roading and very little else. First of all, customers can take a moment to appreciate the exquisite level of detail and striking resemblance to the real thing. But the good news is obviously more than skin deep. Or else it would not be featured on our list. It is more than just a looker.

Once you are past how good it looks, you can appreciate its more functional details. It has a relatively large cockpit and longer wheel base to provide an easier fit and a more comfortable and stable ride. Its two-speed drive train maxes out at five miles an hour. And you do get an assortment of safety features like a reverse option, a lock-out option at high speed, as well as power-lock brakes. And even though its power source is a 12-volt battery, it can still make those same noises that its petrol powered equivalent can make.

  • Battery Powered Ride-On Car for Boys or Girls 1-3 Years Old (Under Supervision of Adult)
  • 12V Battery, 2 Motors, 2 Speeds (3 Speeds from Parental Remote), Maximum Speed 2-4 Mph
  • Full function Parental Remote Control with Remote STOP, High/Low Speed, Forward/Reverse switch, Lights ON/OFF Switch
Why we like it: One of the classiest buys you can make. No questions asked about its quality and comforts.

Editor’s rating:

BMW does not just make cars for current CEOs, it makes them for future CEO’s as well. The i8 is modeled after BMW’s visionary hybrid high-performance machine that was in many ways radical in its design and technology. However, this scaled down toddler version is as simple as you would like. It maxes out at just two and a half miles an hour, the perfect learning pace for its little driver. And its drop dead looks could really make the neighboring kids scream.

Most of the BMW sports cars we know and love use a six-cylinder engine. This one uses a six-volt battery which comes with its own charger. And it would not be a BMW without some actual creature comforts. You get an interior that bears an uncanny resemblance to the real thing, as well as an MP3 player, BMW badging, and a seat belt to tuck you in safely. You also get a 90-day warranty period but we really doubt the superb build quality will require you to use it.

Why we like it: It is a fancy piece of kit that is certainly not lacking in any of its crucial areas.

Editor’s rating:

Your kid can pretend your back yard is a Vegas Boulevard and cruise around in style with this drop top drop dead looker. It is best suited for any driver weighing at or under 55 pounds. So that likely excludes kids beyond the age of four. Also, this is a low ride height flat surface cruiser, so any paved surface around your home is where it should be driven. But once there, your kid will have all the confidence they need to open it up.

Power comes from a 12-volt battery with two speeds, three if you count the parent’s remote control. It maxes out at four miles an hour, which is about as fast as a three-year-old can handle. Braking comes from an electrical system which is very reliable. Acceleration is graceful and manageable thanks to the soft start system. Leather seats and a built-in MP3 player with slots for SD card and USB connectivity really do complete the fantasy of driving in downtown Las Vegas.

BIG TOYS DIRECT Kids Ride on Jeep

No products found.

Why we like it: Comes with big tires, all-wheel suspension, and a thumping great entertainment system.

Editor’s rating:

If your kid is indicating a passion for going off-road early on, you can further nourish it with this state of the art off-roading vehicle for pre-beginners. You get 12 volts of battery power and an all-wheel suspension system to manage those massive 14-inch tires. Front and rear lights are also a given in case your little one feels like taking a nighttime commute. And we have not gotten to the entertainment system yet. You might say it is a bit over the top.

In terms of entertainment, this miniature jeep is really no different from a life-sized model. You get FM radio, an MP3 player, a USB port, as well as a slot for your SD memory card. It is safe to say this jeep respects a child’s familiarity with modern technology. Driving it comes with two options. There is the gas pedal at the mercy of your kid’s right foot and a 2.4GHz remote controller at the mercy of your right hand, ready to step in if the antics become too much for your liking.

  • KidTrax Ram 3500 Dually Longhorn Edition 12-Volt Battery-Powered Ride On Mossy Oak
Why we like it: Even more exquisitely detailed and similar to its real life counterpart, and contains other exclusive functions too.

Editor’s rating:

This new edition of the Ram 3500 is designed to be even closer to the original than ever. It has proper functioning doors, a manual dump bed, and tailgate that can be opened to load and unload stuff. The top speed is five miles an hour going forward and two and a half miles an hour in reverse. The power comes from a 12-volt battery like in most other powered wheels. LED lights are a standard feature as well.

But this is not a scaled down humming version of its life-sized cousin. It can simulate the engine sounds of the real thing quite well and easily give the impression that it is diesel powered instead of electric. Traits of the original can be found in the interior as well. The seats follow the characteristics stitching theme of the real car and the dash is a mock burl wood. It is as close to the real Dodge Ram as you can get if you are below three years old.

Rollplay GMC Sierra Denali Ride-On

Rollplay GMC Sierra Denali 12 Volt Ride-On Vehicle, Black
  • FUN TODDLER CAR:2.5 MPH and 5 MPH forward, and 2.5 MPH reverse speeds with high-speed lockout
  • FUNCTIONAL FEATURES: Working LED headlights and horn/engine sounds for a realistic feel (2 AA batteries required, not...
  • LUXURY DETAILS: Two opening doors with realistic windows, dashboard, clear windshield, tailgate and side-view mirrors...
Why we like it: Reasonably fast, well equipped, and comes with a reassuring warranty deal.

Editor’s rating:

The Rollplay GMC is fit for riders starting from around three years of age but will have to stop once they get past 130-pound limit which – come to think of it – is adult territory. Actually, that limit factors in the weight of the driver as well as an additional passenger. Sometimes, driving alone can be a bit dull. It is always good to have a passenger beside you commenting on your driving and sharing a good laugh about it.

The Rollplay is powered by a 12-volt battery that takes it to a top speed of five miles an hour, about as fast as powered wheels get and an easy pace to stay in control with. The battery itself is on a six-month warranty and rest of the car is on a 12-month warranty. Details are not in want with this car. You get two functioning doors, LED lights on the front, a dashboard, side mirrors, a windscreen that you can see out of, and MP3 connectivity with speakers included.
